Alias Smith and Jones

Hannibal Heyes and Kid Curry, the two most successful outlaws in the history of the West and in all the trains and banks they robbed, they never shot anyone.  This made our two latter day Robin Hoods very popular - with everyone but the railroads and the banks.

"There's one thing we gotta get Heyes"

"What's that?"

"Out of this business"

"The Governor can't come flat out and give you amnesty now, first you've got to prove you deserve it"

"Ah, so all we have to do is just stay out of trouble til the Governor figures we deserve amnesty?"

"But in the meantime we'll still be wanted?"

"Well, that's true.  Til then only you, me and the Governor will know about it. It'll be our secret."

"I sure wish the Governor would let a few more people in on our secret."

Hannibal Heyes (alias Joshua Smith) and Kid Curry (alias Thaddeus Jones)  are the two most wanted outlaws in the west, but these "two pretty good bad men" have never shot anyone and when they decide that they want to go straight the Governor makes them an offer.  He will give them an amnesty for their crimes if they can live on the right side of the law for a year.  Until that time, however, they are still wanted, dead or alive, and can still be sent to prison for 20 years.

The show was created by Glen A. Larson and brought in as a mid-season replacement for Matt Lincoln in 1971.  The pilot, produced by Glen A. Larson, aired on 5 January 1971.

Roy Huggins took over the helm as executive producer for the series itself and the first episode, The McCreedy Bust, was aired on 21 January 1971.

After Pete Duel's death on 31st December 1971, Roger Davis (who had narrated the opening titles) was cast within days to play the role of Hannibal Heyes and the final five episodes of the second season were completed.  The show was renewed for a third season but was cancelled after just twelve more episodes, the last episode airing on 13 January 1973.

When Pete died on 31st December 1971, he was halfway through filming an episode of ASJ.  The decision was taken to recast the part and continue the series.

The series was cancelled mid-way through the third season.

Personally, I'm a big fan of fan fiction - stories written about Hannibal Heyes and Kid Curry by amateur writers who are fans of the show - and who are also extremely talented.

There are some excellent stories on this site by several writers.

There is also some available on the internet and some available as zines which can be purchased on the internet - check the Fan Fiction page for full details.
