From: Karen Hi Linda
Just found this website. I was only 10 when Pete tragically passed away. He is still the best. Keep up the good work.
A loyal fan from England From: Lisa Great Website Linda !!! You brought back all my memories from a 13 year old girl when all of this was taking place. I got answers to questions and got to see Pete's dimples again. Thanks. From: Natalie I just discovered your website and I think it's beautiful! I am a big fan of Pete Duel. Is it possible that you have a larger sized version of that small pic of him with his hat on (second one on the upper left of the home page) that you could send me as a jpeg attachment? What episode of ASJ was that from? It's such a cute expression. Thank you for creating this lovely site. nataliecmm@yahoo.com From: Carol Nygaard Hi There! I am new to this site. I have been a Pete Duel fan since he first appeared in Gidget, back in 1965. Guess that tells you how old I am, huh? I just recently became aware of this site. It is fantastic!!
I am also a fan of the series "Alias Smith and Jones", and well as "The Psychiatrist". I felt that Pete was particularly effective in the Casey Poe role. At the time, I was studying drama in school, and I actually did a critique on some of Petes' roles as part of an assignment. I thought he was a great method actor, and I still do. He was very underappreciated. When I read his favorite poem here, "Please Hear What I'm Not Saying", it became clear to me that he felt this, too. And, maybe bought into it alot. That he wasn't worthwhile. This type of thinking is usually the work of parents. I'm told that his only valued careers like medicine. This does untold damage to a child. I wonder if this wasn't part of his problem. I just wish that he knew how much others were affected by him. And how valuable the arts and drama
are. We live in a much more understanding world now than he did back then. It's too bad he couldn't have hung on a few more years and gotten the right treatment. I am now a psychology student, and I work with people like Pete. He needed to know that he wasn't to blame. Probably his parents were. Once you have that knowledge, you can start to re-parent yourself and find the self esteem that is so lacking. It's too bad that he never got to realize this. Still, he left us with his works to still enjoy. He was a bright, shining star that burned out way before his time. From: Caroline Just discovered this site - wonderful and it's great to see so many pics. of Pete Duel. I remember crying buckets when the news came on that he had died - just couldn't believe it. I think I bought every magazine etc. I could about him and tried to come to terms with never seeing that gorgeous smile again on TV. With a friend we went to see Cannon for Cordoba and the whole cinema audience froze when a scene came on showing him with a gun to his head! It was a freaky moment.
Does anyone remember the Pete Duel Ecology Committee that started up shortly after he died in memory of him? I became a member but it seemed to fade away. I was 16 at the time and they sent me a badge and a brochure with a picture of Dr. Albert Schweitzer feeding antelopes. As an animal lover it drew my attention and I've read about him and adopted his wonderful philosophy of Reverence for Life - including all life, animals, plants, insects as well as human. I'm sure this is something that Pete Duel was well aware of too.
He definitely was ahead of his time in his ecological thinking and I can understand how depressed he must have been many times when thinking about the state of the world and seeing nature destroyed in so many places. But at last there are many more organisations now willing to act and save animals and vast areas of glorious countryside throughout the world - we mustn't give up or get down, but all do our own little bit, wherever we find ourselves, to generate sympathy and concern for our fellow creatures and their habitats and be active in promoting these ideas.
Well done on such a great site, I've had a lovely visit and will "call" again I'm certain!
From: Renelle S. Glad I stumbled on your website, I was an 8 year old fan of Pete's way back when.......his death was odd to me - and it was not until I could slowly reflect on all the "adult" articles that I never had the ability (or money) at that time to read - things make sense to me (well, not all of it of course), but it helps to let go of some of the memories and keep only the happy ones like the rest of your visitors!
I remember going to Universal Studios back then - only no one was on the set at that time - so I never met Pete at all - but through all the wonderful fans I meet on occasion (although other people think we're weird) - I make new bonds and friendships and I think if Pete knew the impact he made on people - he is probably smiling somewhere now!
Great Site - Thanks for developing it! From: Steve ASJ was never quite the same without Pete, and in some ways it would have been a fitting tribute to have stopped the show after Pete's death. Pete was a very underrated actor, and I guess many people have written him off as just another pretty face. His brilliant performances in ASJ stand the test of time-what a great show and I don't think I've seen one episode where his warmth, humour and humanity don't shine out like a beacon. Rest in Peace Pete-you brought a lot of joy and fun into many people's lives and even though you died tragically your life was not tragic and was not wasted. From: Michel Hello Linda, I have been trying to get a copy of the movie A thousand Plane Raid without any luck. I know it is not sold in VHS or DVD and hardly ever shown on TV. So I am interested in getting a copy on VHS format or if this is not possible than in DVD format. Your site is just superb.

From: Cynthia Hello, I've recently looked up various actors to read about them, Pete being the main heart-throb, and found all this information great. Boy, how it brings it all back! I remember so well hereing of Pete's death on the news, and feeling so bad,i was just 10 when he died. My room was covered with posters of him, he had such a lovely smile. I never missed ASJ, remember being aloud to stay up to see it, then it was straight to bed. I will always have fond memories of the show and Pete. From: Anonymous This site is only copie of other site's, I think we have one to many of these site's because they are all the same.
ASJCollection is the best one so far.

This is a genuine tribute to Pete and to those of us who were touched by his life.
Thank-you for your time and talent in making this website a place for people to come to reflect and rejoice in their memories!
God Bless. From: Lyn I came across this site quite by chance in October 2003 and have been checking it ever since. Thank you for all the beautiful pictures (some of which I have not seen before and hope you have more). The Vid Caps are wonderful and show the true depth of expression he had. A big thank you.
Please keep up the good work, so people don´t forget one of the greatest ever.
From: Mez I have really enjoyed this site. I was seven when Pete
died but only knew he had died a few years later. It has
been great to read all the articles about him, though it
does bring a tear to my eyes.
From all the articles I have read about Pete on this site
he comes across as being a caring person, nobody has a bad
word to say about him. All the people who knew him, family
friends and co-workers all say what a nice person he was.
Pete was so talented, handsome and had such a lovely smile.
I hope you are at peace now. Gone but never forgotten.
From: Colleen Just love this website. And the Calendar collages are just WONDERFUL!!! Thank You so much for continuing to honor this beautiful man. There will NEVER be another Pete. None of the stars today can compare. :-) From: arlene I was a huge fan of asj in my teens. The boys were both so handsome and clever and absolutely adorable. It was easy to have a crush on them. I liked heyes to best though. His intelligence and decency showed in every move he made and every word he said. The part was taylor made for Pete Duel. Playing the part of a law-breaker with a conscience and integrity was a good fit.
I wish the show would return in re-runs around here. Pa. it would be great to catch up with the kansas cousins once more. I loved the episodes with Sally Field playing Clementine Hale. From: David Wayne Martinez Never did I dreamed that this special Young Man would have such a great internet site. Thanks Linda, and Thanks Pete for all the great times you gave me in 1971. From: Dorothy Ryder I have been a fan of Pete Duel ever since they first showed "Alias Smith and Jones" on T.V. I think he is a great Actor and he was so funny in it. I was really upset when they ended the series and took it off televion altogether. When it came on the news that he had accidently shot himself I cried for days. he was such a lovely person so it seemed to me that it was a waste of a talented young life which could have gone on to make lots more films. They have started to show it on t.v. I noticed recently, but I cant get chanel 5 so I can't watch it and it makes me sad. I am pleased that fans still think of him and have made web sites for him. From: Gini Hi,
This website is wonderful. I was 12 years old when Pete Duel passed away. What a tragedy. ASJ was my favorite show at the time....how I looked forward to Thursday evenings at 7:30 pm.
I recently went on Ebay and purchased an ASJ three episode video. I couldn't believe how much I still loved this show. My daughter watched them with me and she really enjoyed them. She wanted to know everything about Pete Duel and I explained to her the tradegy of his death. She wants me to get more episodes!
Keep this website going.....it's a great tribute. From: karen prosper i just found this site, and like so many that have already commented, i think that this is a wonderful tribute to a man who had talent and great possibilites. i was a great fan of alias smith and jones and watched it faithfully. i was just devasted when i heard the news of his death. i think this web site is wonderful and hope you keep it up . From: Lorraine G I found this site very informative and interesting. I've been a fan of Pete Duel ever since I saw the first episode of Smith and Jones. The entertainment industy has lost a great performer. From: Nancy Great site..I love Pete! He was the hottest thing on tv...I miss his face! From: Paula What a wonderful site about a wonderful man.
It's good to see he's still remembered.
Let us never forget him.
Keep up the excellent work! From: Helen Kilgallon Pete died when I was 9. I thought he was simply the most lovely human being I had ever seen, and I still have the same reaction to seeing him on this wonderful website.
This has given me some way to find closure on events which have haunted me ever since his tragic death.
Thankyou.
From: Linda I was only five when I discovered and lost the funny man with the lovely smile. I've never forgotten him and think your webside is amazing. Keep it up. From: Ans from Holland Hello
Does any one know how Jan Busell is doing?
Mine last reply from her was in Dec 2003, since then I heard nothing any more of Jan.
Please let me know.
Thanks! From: sarah whitcombe Pete Duel changed my life in my teenage years. For a long time I simply wanted to die because he had left the planet. But he also brought the word ecology into my life. It has never left me, and I am a far better human being because of him. Thank you Pete! From: glen 33 years ago Pete's undiagnosed depression and chemical dependency, or
an inherited tendency, got the best of him. Don't we wish we could have
helped him....Pete was my favorite actor in my favorite show and this is
the same after all these years. I don't think people post a lot upon the
anniversary, but perhaps mourn quietly, or chat online. I have always
marked the anniversary. From New York originally, I wish to visit his
resting place someday. What happened to Pete could happen to anybody. I
just hope that his tragedy yielded good results in others who sought help.
glen gorsetman jimmyhman@aol.com. From: Becca Flowers Nice site and great pictures of a truly handsome man. Went to locate
his grave site a year after he died. You don't have any pictures of him
from the old Gidget tv show with Sally Fields? Reply from Linda - There are many photos of him from
Gidget on the Gidget pages and on the Gidget
page in the Vid Caps Libary From: thaddeus jones Always interested in knowing where people were when they heard the
shocking news of Pete's passing. I was standing in the supermarket that
Saturday morning working in the dairy section as I did every Saturday,
working my way through college....The basketball player Lew Alcindor's
mother had just gotten her container of milk that I stocked and the
morning moved along uneventfully. I was so used to seeing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's
mother that it was old hat to me! About 11:30 the store radio broadcast
the news. Now I had been riding high since the pilot aired in January 1971
and much higher when the show began to air September in NYC. I loved it.
For many reasons Pete was my favorite. Then came the words...actor dead
from an apparent suicide. Unbelieveable.Well we since learned much more
about the man and what was on his mind. As important as the assassination
of the Kennedys was, the tragedy of Pete Duel touched me even deeper. I
never fully reconciled it and perhaps thru this wonderful site you folks
can help explain it to me. I'm not sure we know the answer, but I'm ready
to learn. What happened, and why? From: Linda Musick I just came across this website and I think it is a great memorium to the great Pete Duel. It's such a shame that someone with so much talent had to leave this world so soon. He was always my favorite actor and I still get excited whenever I find old re-runs of ASJ on TV!
Like the previous comment by Mr. Jones, I have wondered over the years where people were when they heard the tragic news of Pete's death. I personally wish that the circumstances were different when I heard the news. I had an agonizing sleep during the night because everytime I drifted off to sleep, I began dreaming that my favorite actor was shot. I kept waking up with tears in my eyes and realizing it was a dream would finally get calmed down and go back to sleep. Then daylight came and once again I awoke with tears in my eyes because I kept having the same terrible dream. I decided not to try to sleep anymore. As a teenager, the first thing I would do in the morning was turn on my radio and when I did, I heard the news of Pete's tragic death. I hoped that I was still dreaming but slowly realized that I wasn't. I began crying and jumped up and went to turn on the TV to find out if I could see some report about it. My dream became a reality....I must've watched every news report that was on that day, trying to get it to sink in. I spent that whole day changing channels and crying. It was as if I had lost my very closest relative or friend. It was the worst day I can remember.
I am so glad that there are people who still remember Pete Duel and are keeping his memory alive. I am so glad I found this website. I will visit it often. From: Barbara Love your site. From Pete's death on, I quit watching AS&J. No one could ever take his place. They should have never tried. Gone but not forgotten. May you rest in peace, Pete, where ever you are.
I like the picture of Pete [header3.jpeg], any chance of getting a larger copy? I will be checking the site out for any updates. Good job! Reply
from Linda - The full size version is available in the Vid

From: Lyn (from England) Hi, I came across this site by accident. Don’t know how long it’s been in existence but it’s nice to know you are working to keep Pete’s memory, alive and that there are so many people out there who still remember him. I was only 17 when Pete died, but I’ve never forgotten it, or him. Every New Year I still say a prayer for him. Looking at all the photo’s of him on your site makes me go weak at the knees all over again!
He was so handsome, talented and charismatic, and, by all accounts, a nice guy in real life too; a rare combination and a hard act to follow. (Don’t know how they ever thought A&J could continue without him). No doubt he would have gone on to much greater things. His death was such a waste. I loved him from the first time I saw him and still do. I avidly watch any re-runs of AS&J that come on TV. Sadly, they don’t appear all that often, so I treasure the ones I have on tape. I pray his soul found the peace that eluded it in this life over on the other side, but he’s still very much missed on this side. Hope he knows how much he was, and still is, loved.
From: Cindy Sutter I Love your web site I'm glad I found it. I will definatly be visiting it often.
From: Nancy, Santa Rosa Love the site, thank you for all your hard work! Pete died when I was 8 and now that AS&J is back on t.v. I watch it with my three girls (15, 14, 5). removed From: Carolyn Well, I'm not a lesbian, so I guess that makes me either a loser or a freak according to the last comment before mine. Don't know why someone would take the time to make such a stupid comment, what is the website hurting? (In case the comment gets removed because of its negative comments, there was a rude comment about the people who visit the website. And since that person obviously visited the site, too, what does that make them?)
My story is this - I happened to see Alias Smith and Jones running on Encore Westerns Channel one afternoon, and I watched it for old times sake. My brother and I used to watch it - back in the day, as my son would say. In this case, the day happened to be one where we only had three channels to watch and we were happy to see Alias Smith and Jones!
I can't say I've spent the intervening years pining away, however, I did always remember the show fondly and I do remember that it was a shock to my nine-year-old self when I heard that Peter Duel had not only died, but that it was a probable suicide. Quite a life lesson.
The reason I visited the site is because I recalled how sad it was when Mr. Duel died, and it occurred to me that, as we no way of getting instant information like we do in this day and age of ther internet, and as I was only a child at the time, I never really knew the details of Mr. Duel's death. And I was curious. I was actually surprised to see how many sites are dedicated to him.
So, that's my reason for visiting the site. Nostalgia, and I guess a belated good-bye to a very good childhood memory! From: If you see a lad named Joshua or Pete or Hannibal! or Thaddeus, and they look 30-something, there's a good chance you know where their name came from! I met a fan whose son is Joshua. I would be curious to know of any other examples which may now be displayed on this message board. I watched some of an ASJ episode, one in which Pete had the long mutton-chop sideburns. I felt like he was still with us, folks! He had something. Charisma? Chemistry? Charm? And Ben was wonderful with him too. What a difficult choice for women fans to make! A no-lose situation.....Well, as I watched I felt the need to put myself in the picture and say Pete, we love you. And now LET'S TALK! If only I could have....Pete buddy, I thank you for everything you did. You influenced my Wonder Years. Still do in fact. Thank you Miss Linda for the best site I have seen yet. I know it's hard to maintain but we appreciate it immensely, and would like to see you keep up the good work. It has a nice feeling. You might say it has charisma, chemistry and charm. From: Rebel Thanks for managing a great site, lots of information and easy to find.
Best of Luck From: Janet Douglas Peter Duel was so handsome and a great actor. Watching the re-runs of Alias Smith & Jones has been such a pleasure. The world lost a great actor and a good man when he passed away. 2/15/2005 From: Sonja M Thanks for such a great site! I have recently rediscovered Pete and AS&J and loved blowing half of my work day here! From: PATRICIA Peter I REMEMBER YOU TODAY THANK YOU FOR ALL QUE EXITO PUEDE SER MAS GRANDE QUE EL SEGUIR DANDO FELICIDAD A LOS QUE TE QUEREMOS AUN TANTOS AÑOS DESPUES DE HABER PARTIDO From: Mez Happy 65th birthday to you Pete. You may no longer be on this
this earth, but you are always remembered by so many
people. You gave us lots of joy in your career, and you
cared about many important issues in life.
Hope you are now at peace.
Love to you.

From: Lyn (from England) Hi, just checking in. I assume, from reading Carolyn’s entry (February 09) that some sad person had made comments to the effect that this site, and the people who visited it needed to get a life. As Carolyn said, since that person took the time to visit the site too, what does that make them? That person probably wishes that he had that many friends who would strive to remember him when he is gone! When each of us loses family and friends, we endeavour to keep their memories alive with photo’s, videos, talking about our times with them etc; that’s how we all live on - in the memories of our loved ones. Just because we may not have been personally known by the person who died, does that mean that we should forget they ever existed, or the influence that they may have had on our lives, however small? I think it’s great, as I’m sure his family do, that so many people had the same feelings about Pete that I did, and haven’t forgotten him, and it’s nice to share those memories, and in doing so keep Pete’s memory alive. On a personal level, watching Pete on screen as a teenager, and admiring his talent, was a direct influence on my taking up acting - although purely on a amateur level - which I still do today. Back then, as a 16 year old, I wished I could learn to act as well as he did. One thing I have learned down the years however, is that actors are born and not made. And he was born to it; a natural. If I had as much acting talent as he did, in my little finger, I’d be pleased. Bless you Pete. I continue to strive for excellence, as you did. Even though I fail most of the time, I persevere.
From: Lynn I loved watching ASJ while growing up. Now the western channel in my area has ASJ on. I can love it on over again. Thanks western channel. From: kks The last 2 weeks I could not get my mind off Pete. I found this site and it's great.
I often wondered if Pete was ok on the other side, I prayed nightly for him for years. Two days ago I asked for a sign that he was ok, I got that sign. I found a little mental heart with my name on it. I know in my heart of heart that was his sign that he's ok and know we all love him.
KKS From: Xênia Pete, you are the best guy in the world, ever! I realy love you! From: claudette a great memorial. From: From: Melanie It's been 33 years since Pete left us. I was 16 and it nearly killed me, too. since ASJ has been on the Western Channel, I've caught every one! Thank you for your website. I had no idea so many people even knew who Pete was! Keep up the phenomenal work!!! From: Clive Bennett He died when i was eight years old and i remember it as if i had lost my best friend! Life seemed so bleak and empty after that...
So, on to new pastures now! From: Nancy I have been coming to this site since January 2005 and I still haven't gotten halfway through it. Thanks for such a great site. From: taylor rae hey people don't forget to watch the re-runs of alias smith and jones on the westerns channel!! From: Vicky When Ewesterns started showing reruns of AS&J I got on the web and found this site...LOVE IT! Enjoy all the content. Keep it coming. THANKS From: Marianne
I've loved Pete Duel ever since I first saw him in ASJ in the early 70ies.
He's my all time favorite actor.
Thank you for this great site. From: Richard J. frank Pete, what charisma on "Alias, Smith, and Jones knew." But you
knew your destiny, unfortunately for us. Continue resting. From: DONNA I JUST LOVE YOUR WEB SITE. PETE WAS A TRUE ANGEL, I REALLY DO MISS HIS DIMPLES AND CUTE SMILE. SUCH A FINE ACTOR!!!
I WAS ONLY 20 WHEN HE PASSED. PETE LIVED JUST THREE HOUSES
